Attack on Ram Navmi procession: 50 booked for rioting by Himmatnagar police

Himmatnagar: ‘B’ division Police in Himmatnagar town of North Gujarat has booked a mob of 50 Muslims including five Janubhai Saiyed, Faizal Ahmed Saiyed, Juned Pathan, Liyakat Fruitwala, Irfan alias Kagdo Sarfumiya Sheikh in connection with attack on Ram Navmi procession of Hindus on Tuesday. Extra police force has been deployed in the town, particularly in minority populated areas like Nyaymandir, Chhaparia, Hussain chowk, Ambawadi etc where Muslim businessmen observed bandh to prevent any further escalation of violence on Hindu festival of Ram Navmi.
Two Hindu youths Nagendrasinh Kumpavat and Chetansinh Chauhan’s vehicles which were part of Ram Navmi procession were stopped and attacked with stones on Tuesday in Muslim dominated area by Muslim youths. Both were hospitalized as they had suffered serious injuries in this attack. Even police jeep was attacked and damaged by attackers.
Ram Navmi procession had started from Shri Ram mandir in Chhaparia area. Dozens of bike riders had joined the procession which passed through Purnima dairy, Hariom Society, Dadhichi Society, Reliance Mall, Mahivarnagar char rasta, Tower Chow, Sahkar hall, Pologround Ganpati mandir, Brahmani nagar etc area. Yatra was attacked when it reached Collector office area.
