Jailed Narayan Sai writes letter to PM Modi, demands national commission for men

Surat: The son of controversial god-man Asaram Bapu, Narayan Sai, himself a self styled religious preacher, behind bars like his father under charges of rape, bribing and other offenses, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the constitution of a national commission for men on the lines of the existing national commission for women.

Terming Modi as a man of strong will power, Sai in his letter has also urged him to immediately revise various provisions of the laws related to rape and sexual exploitation.

‘It is good that several steps to empower women and for their safety were being implemented in India. These are required to protect them but I want to draw your attention to an important aspect of it. Many women were grossly misusing the laws which have been made very strict after the Nirbhaya rape case of 2012,’ he has written.

In the last 3 to 4 years most of the cases of rape lodged against men were found to be false. Last year a session court in Delhi while exonerating a man in such a case observed that no one discusses the dignity and honour of a man as all are fighting for the rights of women. Where’s the law to protect a man from a woman when he is being persecuted and implicated in a false case? Perhaps, it’s time to take a stand,’ Sai has written.

He has also claimed that in a 2014 report of Delhi commission for women it was mentioned that 53% of cases of rape lodged in Delhi in 2013 were found to be false and fake. Many women were also misusing the serious laws like POCSO -Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. A girl in Thane of Mumbai had sent his own father to jail for 3 years misusing the act owing to a fight with him.

Sai has also mentioned and quoted from various judgements and reports to justify his point and demand in the letter written to the prime minister.

He said that to immediate steps should be taken to stop the misuse of such laws. He said that the identity of the accused of rape should also be kept secret like the identity of victims till he was proved guilty as by not doing so the loss of prestige of the accused even when he was exonerated in such cases could not be made up for.

Sai claimed that a national commission for men was necessary to protect innocent people who were framed by women misusing the laws pertaining to rape.

Notably, Sai had unsuccessfully tried to get bail to contest the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh from two seats in January this year.

Sai has been lodged in Lajpore central jail here since his arrest in December 2013 in connection with alleged rape and sexual exploitation of a lady who while filing the complaint claimed she war raped by Sai 7 years ago. The elder sister of the victim had alleged that Asaram had raped and sexually exploited her. Sai was also made accused in a sensational bribery case involving policemen to weaken the cases against him and his father. In September last year his estranged wife Janki had lodged a complaint of harassment against him and Asaram in a police station in neighbouring Rajashtan. She had alleged that he had also married to one of his disciples.

Sai known for his whimsical statements and ideas had some weeks ago also written a letter to the Prime Minister seeking his cooperation in reforming the Lajpore central jail here where he was cooling his heels.
