Fire-crackers cause fire in grass near runway at Ahmedabad Airport, 10 flights minorly delayed

Ahmedabad: Around 10 flights to and from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport here suffered minor delays owing a fire in the grass beside the runway, Airport Director A K Sharma today said.
The fire, which most likely was triggered by a spark from the crackers burst to make the birds go away from the run way, spread quickly owing to the grass being highly dry owing to summer season accompanied by wind,’ he said.
‘The fire was noticed at around 1230 hrs this noon and as we have a full fledged fire station at the airport, the fire tenders rushed their immediately and doused the fire by 1400 hrs. The airport operations were by and large normal but around 4 to 5 arriving flights and a similar number of departing flights suffered minor delays of 10 to 15 minutes,’ he said.
Around 5 fire fighting vehicles with 20 fire tenders were involved in the operation.
