Woman police cell arrests hubby of ex-IPS officer cum Congress leader’s daughter

Ahmedabad: The women police wing here today arrested Keyur Desai, husband of Rashesha Desai, the daughter of ex-IPS officer and Congress leader V V Rabari, who has filed a complaint of harassment and other charges against him.

The complaint was lodged in the women police station of the city a few days ago on the instruction of the Gujarat High Court from which she had sought police protection for fear of ‘honor killing’, because her husband as she claims, does not want her to pursue her profession of a yoga trainer.

ACP of woman cell of the police here Ms Panna Momaya said that Desai was today summoned in the woman police station for interrogation and was later arrested.

‘His wife has filed a case against him under section 498A (cruelty towards one’s spouse), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC and sought protection from him. He has been arrested and would be produced in a court to furnish a bond. It would be up to the court to allow him bail or send him to judicial custody (jail),’ the ACP said adding that in the case her father has not been made an accused.

In her petition before the High Court she had claimed that she could be killed by her husband simply for the sake of so-called norms and rules of the community to which she belonged to. She claimed that her husband and her father were opposed to her efforts to create an independent identity and wanted her to adhere to traditional values. She also expressed apprehension about an attack on her yoga studio in Thaltej area here.
She had alleged that after she left her matrimonial home following a dispute with her adamant husband, her father refused to shelter her and threatened her and insisted that she must give up her profession and return to her matrimonial home. According to Rashesha, after she succeeded in yoga teaching, friction between her and her husband began. Her husband continuously threatened her to divorce her.

She then moved the high court seeking police protection from her husband.
