May 15, 2017
Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in a statement today said the allegations of opposition party pertaining to funding of SAUNI project which is the lifeline of Saurashtra are baseless. Rupani in his statement said: ‘all points of SAUNI project are checked by Central Water Commission. The state government has shared all necessary details pertaining to CWC report in March 2017 in depth and Central government has granted in principle approval to SAUNI. The project is in last phase of approval and Congress’s negative approach and baseless allegations are improper.’
‘The state government has started Rs 16,638 crore SAUNI project under which Rs 6700 crore works are near completion. Rs 6200 crore second phase tenders are approved. Rs 6400 crore proposal has been sent to the Centre for additional financial assistance. Ministry of Economic Affairs had in its meeting held on 27 October 2016 given in principal approval to this proposal. The proposal was sent to Central Water Commission to check technical features. Central Water Commission had checked various technical features and on 30th December 2016 made recommendation to Central government’s Water Resource ministry with some conditions. In connection with CWC report, Gujarat government has presented necessary details in-depth before the Central government.’
‘The central government of state government has at no stage refused SAUNI implementation related matters. Technical analysis of any project is very important for its success.’
‘In last ten years, UPA government had not approved any big project for the people of Gujarat. It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government which extended huge amount of assistance. In its ten years, UPA government didn’t extend World Bank of Asian Development Bank assistance to Gujarat. It is for the first time now that the Central government has given in principal approval to additional sum of Rs 4600 crore for the development of rural roads of Gujarat. Proposals for another Rs 5300 crore development works are under consideration at the Centre.’
‘While UPG government had delayed the approval of installation of gates over Narmada dam, Shri Narendra Modi gave same permission within 17 days of taking oath as Prime Minister.’
