10 crore trees to be planted in Gujarat to increase green-cover and prevent soil-erosion: Rupani

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today said that the state government with help of various voluntary organizations, environment lovers, local bodies and commoners would plant 10 crore trees across the state.

Addressing the state level event on the occasion of world environment day here today, Rupani said that the 10 crore trees would be plant to increase the ‘green-cover’ of the state and it would help to tackle the problem of soil erosion.

He said that under the massive plantation drive each gram panchyat would see the planting of at least 1000 trees.
On the occasion he also appealed people to understand the importance of dumping wet and dry household and other trash separately. He distributed 50 thousand trash-bins for keeping dry and wet trash separately and make people take pledge to do so.

CM Rupani said that the wet trash can be converted in to natural fertilizer and used for agricultural purposes. On the occasion he also elaborated about the solid waste management for electricity production in 167 municipalities and 8 municipal corporations of the state.
On the occasion Dy CM Nitin Patel said that environment protection was the responsibility of both the state government as well as the public. He appealed people to protect the environment in the times of Global Warming keeping in mind the generations to come. He also exhorted youths to associate with the programme connect to nature in large numbers.

Ahmedabad Mayor Gautam Shah informed that AMC has organized various events under Green Gujarat-Clean Gujarat campaign for which online registration could be done from today till June 16.

CM Rupani later told newsmen that he hoped that 10 crore plants would be planted during the coming monsoon period.

He also dedicated a garden set up at the cost of Rs 28 lakhs and an Urban Health Center (cost 67 crore) and also launched E-rickshaw and Green Calendar.

Ministers Vallabh Kakadiya, Mrs Nirmalaben Vaghwani, MP Kirit Solanki, Deputy Mayor Pramodaben were also present on the occasion.
