German wholesale store METRO Cash & Carry opens in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: German Multinational company METRO Cash & Carry India, one of the largest organized Indian wholesalers, today announced the launch of its first store in Ahmedabad.

This second store of the company in Gujarat located at Shantipura Circle, Sarkhej has been opened after the already existing one in Surat city.

Arriving with a METRO Price Challenge, the Company claims to have the lowest prices in town. “Ahmedabad is the largest city in Gujarat, and Gujarat is one of India’s leading states in industry and commerce. METRO is viewing Gujarat with keen interest and several other projects are in the pipeline here,” said the CEO and Managing Director of METRO Cash & Carry India, Mr Arvind Mediratta. “We are confident of doing good business in this state, and our success in Surat stands testimony to it. METRO and Gujarat have much in common – we are both made to trade,” quipped the CEO & MD while announcing the launch.

The METRO store is spread over approximately 55,000 sq feet, and will help create more than 350 jobs for the local economy. METRO India caters to over 11 lakh dedicated customers across the country, which includes small and mid-sized kiranas, hotels, restaurants, caterers and self-employed professionals. “Our motto is both simple and sweeping: We aim to be the Champion for Independent Business,” said Mr Mediratta while addressing the media.

Special offerings at the new store include over 50 varieties in Rice and Pulses, a wide range of Ayurvedic products, dedicated zone of Organics and Wellness products, Live Bakery & Café, Beauty Zone, Chai Bazaar comprising loose tea, top brands in Apparel, Footwear, Luggage & Textile at attractive prices, quality household item at value-for-money, disruption pricing in consumer durables and unique regional specialties, such as, Home Decor items from Muradabad & Jaipur and stoneware from Khurja.

Continuing with the corporate philosophy of supporting local businesses, the new METRO store sources at least 20% of its assortment from regional suppliers, helping them connect to national and international markets. The popular regional brands in the store include, among others, Wagh Bakri, Big Cola, Havmore, BH Modi, Ankur, Talod, Gopal, Poonam, Samrat, Gulab, Mumtaz and Rani. Fresh produce for the store, such as fruits & vegetables, will be sourced from farm centre at Prantij Village and the local mandi in the city.

The new outlet continues to offer METRO’s promise – everything under one roof, competitive pricing and uncompromising quality. The company also offers its business customers commodity experts, loading facilities, doorstep delivery services through third party transporters and a robust loyalty programme designed to make their buying at METRO ultra-efficient and professional. METRO made its debut in the state of Gujarat in 2016 with its store in Surat.
