Govt working on Hazira – Victor Port – Diu Ro-Ro ferry plan: Mandavia

Surat: While a Ro-Ro ferry service connecting Saurashtra and South Gujarat is soon going to be launched between Dahej and Ghogha, MoS in Centre Mansukh Mandavia on Sunday in Surat announced government’s plan to start another Ro-Ro ferry service connecting Hazira in Surat and Diu and Vitor ports in Saurashra in near future.

Mandavia was on visit to KRIBHCO facility where he shared this detail with media persons.

He said a survey is being conducted by companies regarding possibilities of a Ro-Ro service between Surat(Hazira) and Saurashtra(Diu and Victor ports).

A meeting is also going to be convened by Shipping ministry in this regard, he said and added that the ferry service will have carrying capacity of 500 passengers, 200 two-wheelers and 50 four-wheelers.

The project will be taken up on public private partnership(PPP) basis, Mandavia said and added that the government will provide all basic facilities for this service.

Mandavia said proposed service when in operation will boost coastal traffic and help to reduce road traffic. It will save time and also prove to be an environment friendly option. A farmers leaving for Surat from Saurashtra with mango would be able to do business and return back within a day.
