A weak old Gir lion hit by female horse

Junagadh: An old-age Gir lion hit by a horse will be taken to animal-car facility of forest department in Gujarat.

On Tuesday night, a wild lion entered into a house of shepherd in Bhaad village of Khambha in Amreli district. A hungry old lion first hunted three calves in shepherd’s compound and later tried to hunt a horse which proved costly for him as the horse attacked the lion in full force with its two legs. Hit badly by horse, the lion couldn’t move or stood up.

Bhabhlubhai Bharwad, a former village head(Sarpanch) woke up and found that the lion had entered into his compound by jumping a 7-ft tall wall. There were five cows, three calves and two female horses tied with rope in the compound. The lion had killed three calves. Due to noise made by cows and horses. Bhabhlubhai and his brother Hamirbhai came out along with other people from neighbouring houses. As the lion was unable to move on its own for over two hours, the staff of forest department which later rushed to the spot had to work hard to pull him out of the compound. The lion could be pushed out of the compound of Bhabhlubhai’s house at around 1.30 am.

It was revealed later that same lion which is very weak and old had four days back entered into same village resident Vipulbhai Roladia’s house and killed three calves.

According to Khambha-Tulsishyam Range Forest Officer(RFO) Mr. Mor, the lion is too old. A few days ago he was offered meat but he was not able to consume it. A doctor was called for its treatment at that time. The lion will be taken to animal care centre of forest department for treatment.
