Heavy monsoon rain lash South and Central Gujarat, life thrown out of gear

Ahmedabad/Surat/Vadodara: With the re-activation of South West Monsoon, heavy to very heavy rain lashed South and central Guajrat in last 24 hours throwing life out of gear at many places including the Industrial town of Vapi which has witnessed over 5 inches of rain today and other places while one person died in a rain related incident in Vadodara.

Met department has issued fresh rain warning which states that Heavy to very heavy rains would lash isolated placed in South and North Gujarat and Saurashtra tomorrow and then the two days after day-after-tomorrow ie June 27 and 28.

Valsad district in which Vapi is situated witnessed an average over 4 inches of rain today. Narmada, Bharuch, Navsari, Dangs and Tapi also saw good amount of rain leading to water logging in low lying areas. Some other areas saw light rains including Surendranagar.

A middle aged man who was crushed under the debris of a house that fell owing heavy rain in Gendi Gate area of Vadodara late last night succumbed in the hospital. Vadodara and neighbouring Anand district in central Gujarat had witnessed around 4 inches of rain last night. Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar had also seen around one and a half inch of rain last night.

Owing to heavy rain since morning a railway underbridge in Vapi town in Valsad district was filled up with water leading to stoppage of traffic through it. Many other areas including Kiparli road and Gunjan saw heavy water logging. In Valsad city also several areas including Dana Bazar, Mogravadi, Chhipvad, Dhanbhura road saw water logging. Some schools also declared closure before time owing to heavy rains.

Dediapada, Sagbara and Tilakvada in Narmada district and Valia taluka in Bharuch saw over 3 inches of rain. Some of the villages in Narmada were temporarily cut off from rest of the district owing to water logging around them.

Incidents of tree falling, wall collapse and death of over half a dozen cattle during the rain have also been reported. Many seasonal rivers are flooded owing to rains.

Meanwhile, the met department has attributed an upper air cyclonic circulation s over Southeast Rajasthan and neighbourhood between 5.8 and 7.6 km above
sea level for the heavy monsoon rains. It also said that an off shore trough at mean sea level runs from south Gujarat coast to Kerala coast.

The southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Saurashtra, some more parts of Gujarat region today and the northern limit of monsoon (nlm) passes through lat. 22.0˚n / long/ 60.0˚e. Dwarka and Vallabh Vidyanagar.

Temperatures across Gujarat lowered further owing to rains and no place saw temperature above 39 degree Celsius. Kandla airport with 38.8 °C was highest in this regard. Ahmedabad recorded a maximum of 36.6° C which was 1.1 °C below normal.

High humidity of 91% in Ahmedabad signals some drizzles or rain late night.
