Govt ready to resolve GST issues, hurting business community not intention: Sitharaman in Gujarat

Palanpur (Gujarat): Amid the ongoing protests and said ambiguity about the GST, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Ms Nirmala Sitharaman today said that the government had taken several initiatives to resolve the issues pertaining to the new tax regime implemented from July 1 and it was not the intention of the government to hurt the business community.
Talking to newsmen here after meeting the small entrepreneurs in the diamond sector at the common facility center here, the minister said that such centers have been started in every district to help resolve the issues pertaining to GST.
‘The bodies of Chartered Accountants, local chambers of business communities etc were also training and enlightening people about the GST. Even the revenue secretary Dr Hansmukh Adhia himself was participating in a master class on GST,’ she said.
To a query regarding the police baton charge on agitating textile merchants in Surat recently, the minister said that it was unfortunate and it was not done intentionally.
‘The government does not intend to hurt the business community or textile traders. The government was ready to listen to their grievances and resolve them,’ Ms Sitharaman said.
