Gujarat govt hikes solar rooftop scheme budget by Rs 15 crore, 4,000 students to get Rs 10,000 subsidy to buy battery vehicles

Vadodara: Chief Minister Rupani today announced allocation of Rs 50 crore budget for residential solar rooftop power generation drive. He said applications are received from over 20,000 residences so far for solar rooftop for which the government had made provision of Rs 35 crore in its budget, now the additional Rs 15 crore allocation will expand the scope of the scheme to total 35-40,000 residences.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a function in Vadodara where he distributed subsidy to solar rooftop scheme beneficiaries and also distributed battery operated two-wheelers among the school going students studying in class 9-12.

The function was hosted by the department of climate change and Gujarat government arm Gujarat Energy Development Agency(GEDA).

Rs 10,000 subsidy amount was distributed among the students for battery operated two-wheelers. According to Ishwarbhai Bhavsar who is heading GEDA, Rs 4 crore budget has been allocated by the State government to offer Rs 10,000 subsidy to each of total 4,000 students this year for purchase of ‘environment-friendly’ batter operated two-wheelers with speed control mechanism’.

The Chief Minister on this occasion announced government’s plan to introduce battery operated buses. He launched online portal for direct registration of solar rooftop scheme applicants. He also launched two mobile application for GUVNL electricity bill payment and complain booking. He congratulated Barodians for highest number of 8,000 applications to adopt rooftop solar system.
