Hours before his controversial B’day event, Vaghela says freedom of expression can’t be scuttled

Gandhinagar: Leader of Opposition Shankersinh Vaghela today said that freedom of expression can’t be scuttled in a democracy and the congress MLA’s and other leaders despite party’s official instructions to not to participated in the Sam-Samvedana sammelan on his birthday today were free to take their own call about it.

Talking to newsmen here hours before the event being held at Town hall here, Vaghela, however, did not open his cards about what next move he will take. He kept on saying that it was just matter of hours and he would say everything in detail there.

About the cross voting of Congress MLA’s in presidential polls, he said that it was for the party to talk to the MLA’s regarding that. ‘My duty was to make all the 57 Cong MLA’s participate in voting, which I did. I had even called the NCP MLA’s and they came along to vote with us as an united opposition.”

About ban by party on its MLA’s in participation in his event today Vaghela in his typical style said, ” A Party is a party and it has every right to take a decision. But at the same time it is also the right of the MLA’s to follow it or not.’

He said that his event has nothing to do with the upcoming elections on the 3 Rajyasabha seats from Gujarat or the Vice presidential election.

He further said that in democracy every one has a right of freedom of expression and it could not be taken away. ‘Let them take the action. Now I will take action. It is just a matter of hours,’ he said.
