Shah and Smriti Irani to be BJP candidates for August 8 Rajyasabha polls in Gujarat

Gandhinagar/New Delhi:

BJP president Amit Shah and union Information and Broadcasting Minister Mrs Smriti Irani would be be the two party candidates for the upcoming polls on 3 Rajyasabha seats in Gujarat to be held on August 8.

Union Minister J P Nadda told newsmen today in New Delhi.

He said that apart the party parliamentary board has nominated the two leaders to contest Rajya sabha election in Gujarat.

They are likely to file nomination soon.

Notably Irani was elected from one of the three seats while as the other BJP member Dilip Pandya was elected last time around. The third seat belonged to Congress leader and political advisor of Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel who filed his papers today.

The last date of nomination for the election is July 28. It started on July 21 with the issue of notification.

A senior party leader of Gujarat today said that it was almost certain to field Shah from Gujarat as he has already indicated to not to contest the upcoming assembly polls owing to his national role in the party.
