1500 kg heroin recovery case: all 8 crew members handed over to NCB for further interrogation

Porbandar: All the 8 crew members of the foreign ship nabbed off Gujarat coast with around 1500 kg heroin in the largest ever drug haul were today handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further interrogation,

NCB Zonal Director Hari Om Gandhi, said that all the 8 crew members including its captain Suprit Tiwary were of Indian origin and there was no foreign national among them. The coast guard has handed them over to the NCB for further interrogation and investigation.

He said that they would be produced in a local court here to seek remand for further investigation of this sensation largest haul of drugs from sea in the country.

To a query he said that the prima facie there seem to be only Heroin in the recovered drug and its price at the rate of Rs 3 crore a kg was around 4500 crores ( more than what was estimated initially ie 3500 crores).

Meanwhile the old ship M V Henry in which the drug was concealed in a pipe like structure atop, has been handed over to the customs for further action.

It was reportedly being taken to Alang Ship breaking yard in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat for dismantling.
