Perpetual tourist Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat, but people ask where are Congress MLAs: Rupani

Gandhinagar: Reacting to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s brief visit to flood-hit Banakantha district, weeks after flood, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today said: ‘The perpetual tourist, Shri Rahul Gandhi came to Gujarat but the people of Gujarat are asking – where are our Indian National Congress MLAs in this crucial time?’

The Chief Minister said this in reference to the fact that 6 Congress MLAs elected from flood-hit Banaskantha district including worst flood-hit Dhanera constituency are camping in luxurious resort near Bangalore for last one week and not returning even after great anger among locals.

The Chief Minister further said: ‘Instead of another photo-op, it would have been better had Rahul Gandhi and Indian National Congress devoted time to proper relief work in flooded areas.’

It’s worth noting that while six elected Congress MLAs are absent from their constituencies, BJP MLAs are extensively working among flood-affected people continuously for last several days. Minister Shankarbhai Chaudhary who has been elected from Banaskantha is camping here since flood. Chief Minister himself camped here for five days.

Rupani took a dig at frequent long foreign vacations enjoyed by Rahul Gandhi and said:

‘Rahul Gandhi’s leadership style is working wonders in his party. Following him, Congress MLAs are also in vacation mode!’

Rupani also said: ‘People of Gujarat know the tricks of the Congress rather too well. Their anti-people and anti-Gujarat mindset is not a secret.’
