Indefinite strike of nurses of Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute continues on day 3

Ahmedabad: The Indefinite strike of the nurses of the Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute, an Asia famed treatment center of cancer situated in the civil hospital premises in Asarwa here continued on the third day today.

Over 300 male/female nurses and other such staff of the Institute went on indefinite strike on August 21. Their main demands were about salary hike and regularization of service.

Director of the Institute R K Vyas today said that the patients under treatment in the institute were suffering owing to the strike. ‘We have taken services of some of the staff nurses from civil hospital as a makeshift arrangement. Now we are able to do only around 2 to 3 operations in comparison to normal day’s 20 to 25 on an average,’ he said.

Vyas said that other alternative arrangements were being made to relieve the patients from hardships caused by the strike.

He also said that police has been deployed around the institute to prevent any untoward incident in the wake of the strike.
