First Indian woman defence minister Sitaraman visits creek area bordering Pakistan, air and army bases in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The first woman Defence minister of the country Nirmala Sitharaman visited various military and air bases in Gujarat and also took an aerial round over Creek area bordering Pakistan close to which a large number of fishing boats of the intruders from the neighbouring countries were seized recently.

Additional Collector of Kutch district D R Patel said that the Defence minister landed at Naliya airforce station and took an aerial round of Creek area. She was accompanied by Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Army Staff and Air Marshal RK Dhir Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command.

After a review meeting and other events as per her schedule she left for New Delhi from here. She was also briefed about the operational preparedness. The Minister was said to have preferred her first call to visit the area of Sir Creek because of the relevance of the area to the overall security requirements of Southern Command.

 

 

 

Earlier she had visited Golden Katar Division of the Indian Army in Ahmedabad where she was received by General Rawat and Lieutenant General PM Hariz, GOC-in-C, Southern Command. She was briefed on the operational situation by the Army Commander. The General Officer Commanding Golden Katar Division briefed her on the historic relevance and strategic implications of the need to maintain effective surveillance in the area.

Interacting with all ranks of Army, Navy, IAF and Coast Guard she appreciated the manner in which the troops are maintaining territorial integrity and are prepared for any eventuality.

Mrs Sitharaman who has been appointed as the co-incharge for the Gujarat election this year by her party BJP had also attended a party function in Gandhinagar today.
