6916 villages of Gujarat to be connected through optical fiber for high speed internet

Gandhinagar: According to a note issued by Science and Technology department of Government of Gujarat, a special purpose vehicle(SPV) Gujarat Fibre Grid Network Limited has been formed to connect 6916villages of Gujarat under Bharatnet project – 2 through optical fiber connectivity at a cost of Rs 1567 crore. The Centre has approved this project, said Gujarat government in its note.
6 dedicated optical fiber shall be there for each gram panchayat foor governmental and non governmental services in village. This facility will become core base of National Optical Fiber Network(NOFN) through which cellular operators, content distributors, internet service providers and government agencies will be able to make their services available upto door steps in villages.
Each gram panchayat will be connected through 100 Mbps bandwidth which shall be expandable upto 1 Gbps. In the first phase Railtel has in Gujarat completed laying of pile in 5401 gram panchayats, laying of optical fiber through this pipeline in 4891 village panchayats and making gram panchayats ready to take benefit of services in 2548 villages. 1843 gram panchayats have been availed the services.
