Ahmedabad:
The meeting of the screening committee of Congress, constituted in August this year for selection of candidates for Gujarat assembly polls, led by former Maharashtra minister Balasaheb Thorat was held today.
Apart from its three members Former MP Meenakshi Natarajan, Congress Legislative Party leader in UP Ajay Lallu and AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar, Gujarat Congress in-charge Ashok Gehlot, state president Bharatsinh Solanki and leader of opposition Mohansinh Rathwa participated in the meeting.
Solanki later said that various aspects of the ticket aspirants and their winnability was discussed in today’s meeting in detail.
The selection of candidates would begin after Diwali,’ he said.
Notably Congress has relaxed various conditions it had earlier put forth for ticket aspirants including the age bar, past track record of not loosing by a margin of over 20 thousand votes and two consecutive defeats. It has reportedly done so to adjust some of the Patidar agitation supporters including Hardik Patel’s advocate Babu Mangukiya and Jeetu Patel.
