Shah attends Gujarat BJP parliamentary board meet to prepare panels of candidates

A parliamentary board meeting of Gujarat BJP is being held here today in presence of party president Amit Shah to give final touch to the probable candidates’ panel which shall be forwarded to the central parliamentary board.

A senior party leader said that the first list of the candidates was likely to announced sometime around November 14, the date of commencement of nomination for the first phase of the poll.

Meanwhile party spokesperson Bharat Pandya said that the meeting being held at the CM residence was likely to continue tomorrow as well.

‘Apart from Amitbhai party in-charge Bhupendra Yadav, CM Vijay Rupani, Deputy CM Nitin Patel, former CM Anandiben Patel, union minister Purushottam Rupala, state president Jeetu Vaghani and other leaders were also participating in the meeting,’ he said.

Another party leader cum spokesperson I K Jadeja said that the meeting would conclude only after finalizing the probable candidates’ panel to be forwarded to the central parliamentary board.

‘The meeting will continue for two or three days as the need be and the job at hand (finalizing the panel of probable candidates) will be finalized before it ends,’ he informed.

Notably, the six day long state parliamentary board meeting of the ruling party was held in presence of Shah from October 21 to 26 in Ahmedabad.

A senior party leader said that the names were discussed with the central leadership and today’s meeting was in continuation of that exercise.

Election in Gujarat will be held in two phases on December 9 (89 seats of 19 districts of South Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch) and December 14 (93 seats of remaining 14 districts of North and Central Gujarat). Counting will take place on December 18.

State president of the main opposition Congress today said in Delhi that the first list of the candidates of the party would be announced on November 16. He did not clarify whether all the 43 sitting MLA’s of the party would again get party tickets.
