Congress postpones CEC meeting for selection of Gujarat candidates

New Delhi: Congress party has postponed its Central Election Committee(CEC) meeting to November 17. Congress was earlier scheduled to hold CEC meeting on November 16. CEC meeting will discuss the names of candidates of Gujarat assembly elections. State Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki had last week said that party will announce the list of 70 candidates on November 16. It is learnt that Congress first wants to go through list of BJP candidates for Gujarat. It is also learnt that Congress is facing problem in deciding some candidates as Patidar quota agitation leaders and Chhotu Vasava are pressing for allocation of more seats to them. Congress is also internally in talk with Sharad Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) and Sharad Yadav faction of Janata Dal United which is represented by Chhotu Vasava in Gujarat. Vasava is pressing for more seats from Congress to achieve poll pact. State Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki has earlier today said that CEC will take decision on names of candidates and announce it anytime after its scheduled meeting on November 16. The meeting however is now going to be held on November 17. It can be also further delayed. It should be mentioned here that the last date of filling nomination for the first phase of polling is November 21. The first phase involves 89 seats of Saurashtra and South Gujarat regions.
