Received complaints about EVMs connectivity with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth at 3 booths in Porbandar, under investigation: CEO B B Swain

Update: Chief Electoral Officer BB Swain today said the ECI has found no truth in allegations made by Congress candidate from Porbandar pertaining to ‘wifi hacking’ of EVMs in Porbandar. ECI in its inquiry found that Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) polling agent had put his mobile wifi hotspot namely ECO 105 on. Swain said EVMs are stand alone units without provision of any connectivity like wifi, blue tooth, USB etc. The complain has been disposed off.

Gandhinagar:

Election Commission has ordered inquiry in to the allegation that EVMs at some of the booths in Porbandar assembly segment were connected with wifi/blue tooth connections.

Chief Electoral Officer B B Swain told newsmen here that his office had received such complaints regarding 3 booths of Porbandar.

‘We have also been provided screen-shots. We discussed it with the senior ECI officials and the collector of Porbandar has been asked to go to the booths and investigate the whole matter,’ he said.

Notably Porbanadar Congress candidate and former state president Arjun Modhwadia had after casting his vote alleged that the EVMs seemed connected with a wifi connection with name of CEO Gujarat. He had said that it should be investigated and if all the EVMs were connected like this it would indicate a major rigging.

Meanwhile, Rajkot West Congress candidate Indranil Rajyaguru who was pitched against CM Vijay Rupani, has alleged that wi fi signals were visible in the polling booth.

BJP on the other hand has termed the complaining about EVMs by Congress candidates as an indication of defeat of the opposition party. CM Rupani later told newsmen that this EVM complain chorus would increase after the counting.
