Get HSRP fitted in vehicles by Jan. 15 or face fine upto Rs 500 when caught

Gandhinagar: According to a press release by Transport Commissioner, Government of Gujarat, a day after polling for Gujarat Assembly general elections is over, all vehicle owners will need to fit high security registration plate(HSRP) on their vehicles before 15 January 2018. Those found riding vehicle without HSRP will be fined upto Rs 500. HSRP fitting service charge has been fixed as Rs 150 for four wheelers and Rs 89 for two and three wheelers. HSRP fitment has been made compulsory by the Supreme Court. A notice has been issued by Supreme Court to five states including Gujarat on November 23 asking what steps are taken to implement its order. The State government has in response ask all police commissioners and police superintendents to implement HSRP.
It should be noted that new vehicles are having HSRP since 16 November 2012, but old vehicles are still without HSRP which is against the law.
Fitment of HSRP will be possible at RTO offices and Dealers facilities. Charges of fitment are fixed.
