Thousands mark Poshi poonam at Santram Mandir by showering ‘bor’ fruit

Gandhinagar: It was Poshi poonam or Gujarati calendar month Posh’s full moon day today and it was celebrated at number of temples across Gujarat. But the most vibrant celebration was witnessed at Central Gujarat town Nadiad. Bor of zizyphus fruit was showered at Santram temple here with a belief that it cures children with speech-related issues.
There’s belief that children who don’t start speaking even after two years or are slow at adopting speech start speaking if their parents shower bor fruits on Poshi poonam at Santram temple.
Thousands of devotees of Santram Maharaj assemble in the town on the occasion of full moon day of Posh’ month of Hindu calendar for darshan of the saint as this is a rare occasion when he makes a public appearance. Many of them can be seen holding zizyphus or jujube berries that are showered in public.
People from all walks of life and from across the state buy this and shower it if their children have a speech-related problem.
There are many instances and examples of success of this belief which draw even more people next year on Poshi Poonam to this temple.
