On DRI inputs Mundra Customs seizes smuggled good from container brought from Dubai

The Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB) of Customs on specific inputs from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) , Zonal Unit, Ahmedabad has seized smuggled goods worth 1.5 crores from a container brought from Dubai to Mundra Port in Gujarat.

A DRI official today said that specific intelligence was developed that one Jamnagar based firm namely M/s. Divyanshi Metals would be attempting to smuggle substantial quantity of new assorted brass items like screws, rods, strips, nuts, bolts etc. in a 20 Feet Container from Mundra Port by resorting to mis-declaration and concealment. It was further gathered that the said Container would be coming from Jabel Ali Port, Dubai and the importer would mis-declare the new assorted brass items as “brass scrap honey’’ in the import documents and thereby defraud the Government Exchequer by evading the payment of appropriate customs duty as the value of new finished brass items is many times higher than the value of brass scrap.’

He said that Officers of DRI, Ahmedabad kept watch on the arrival of the said consignment at Mundra Port. When the importer filed the Bill of Entry for clearance of the said consignment, then DRI, Ahmedabad passed on the intelligence regarding mis-declaration and concealment of smuggled goods in the said consignment to Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB), Customs Mundra which conducted 100% examination of the said consignment.which was found to contain substantial quantity of new assorted brass items like screws, rods, strips, nuts, bolts etc . The estimated market value of the smuggled goods is approximately Rs. 1.5 Crores.It has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 for further inquiry.
