”I am told that the Gujarat University Startup and Entrepreneurship Council (GUSEC) is supporting several student startups and it also encompasses Council of Skill Development. This is a significant contribution of the University. I believe that promoting employability and self employment as well as enabling students to start small businesses and startups should be a priority for today’s universities,” said President Kovind in his Convocation address.

“Gujarat University is perhaps the first University to have included a startup component in a traditional ceremony of Convocation. Efforts of our startup incubator, GUSEC, are the most extensive for any university in the country for promoting student startups. Going forward, I believe this shall be the norm as startups and innovations are an integral part of the higher education system now,” said Vice-Chancellor Dr Himanshu Pandya.

“GUSEC is one of the largest startup support systems in the country with over 60 startups supported, and the only zero-cost, zero-day startup support system in India. 20 of these are product startups, and include groundbreaking innovations that may solve major problems of the globe few years from now. Student-led innovations are plenty, it is only necessary to provide these students the proper support, motivation and incentive for their startups to flourish,” said Rahul Bhagchandani, Acting CEO of GUSEC.

President Kovind was in the city to grace the University’s annual convocation as the Chief Guest. Gujarat Governor Shri Om Prakash Kohli, the Chancellor of the University; along with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama also interacted with the startups.
