42 held, theater/multiplexes in Surat not to release Padmawat on January 25

Surat:

The theater and multiplex owners in Surat city of Gujarat have decided to not to release film Padmawat on January 25 despite full assurance of protection from the police, Commissioner of Police Satish Sharma said today.

He also said that in all 42 people have been arrested in connection with the five cases lodged in various police stations of the city regarding violence during the anti Padmawat protests in the city recently.

The two persons who had misbehaved with a lady police officer during the protest have also been arrested.

Addressing a press conference here Sharma today said that he has offered full security to the theater and multiplexes in the city if they intended to release film Padmawat but their owners have informed him that they won’t release it on January 25.

He said that he has told the cinema owners that police was ready to provide adequate security whenever they release the film.

Sharma also said that police would take strict action against the two who had misbehaved with the lady PSI. ‘Even if they get bail police would initiate action under various sections of CRPC on preventive grounds and in earlier cases against them,’ he said.

He said that apart from 42 arrests so far 29 more have been identified in connection with the cases and would be nabbed.

Notably, Police in Surat city had lodged 5 cases against over 500 hooligans in connection with yesterday’s ruckus in the name of anti Padmawat protests including over 200 such protesters who misbehaved with a lady police official.
Police had to resort to baton charge in Katargam area of the city when they attacked a city bus and damaged its window panes.

The protesters crossing limits also heckled the local PI in Kakodara area of the city near Kakodara crossing where he was trying to control their hooliganism.

In a similar incident near parbat Patiya in Puna locality of the city a lady police officer was also mistreated by protesters.
