Padmaavat row: uncontrolled hooliganism continuing, over dozen vehicles torched in front of Cinemas and malls in Ahmedabad, ambulance, shops attacked

Ahmedabad:

Anti Padmaavat protesters and anti social elements today went on rampage in Ahmedabad city this evening and did violent protests and arson in front of at least 4 multiplexes situated in different malls.

Over tow dozen 2 wheeler and other vehicles have been burnt down or damaged. However there were no reports of any injury to any human being in the incidents so far.

A police official said that a group of around 200 protesters burnt some bikes near wide angle cinema close to SG highway and later 6 to 7 two wheeler in front of Acropolis Mall in Thaltej area. A few bikes in front of Himalaya mall in Vastrapur which houses carnival cinema were also targeted. Some of the bikes in front of Ahmedabad one and Amrapali mall were also brunt down. Seemingly it was the same group which was moving from one place to the other for doing so.

The windows and glass doors in Acropolis cinema and some of the exteriors of Himalya mall were also damaged in stone pelting and arson.

 

 

 

 

Police and Fire Brigade teams have already reached the spot.

The incidents have taken place on a day when the president of Karni Sena the main opponent of the movie, Lokendra Singh Kalwi was in Gujarat.

He had visited Porbandar and later in Rajkot questioned the promptness of the apex court in removing the ban on the movie while a large number of other important matters were pending before it for years. He said that the public would spontaneously oppose the movie.

Meanwhile, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner A K Singh claimed that many miscreants have been arrested from the spots and police have been deployment on each of the theaters including the affected ones.

He said that strict action would be taken against those involved in this.
