Modi gives comparative figures of progress achieved under NDA and UPA in Centre

New Delhi: Speaking in Lok Sabha today in reply to President’s address to the parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said his government has brought work culture that announcements are not made just for the sake of headlines and mislead the people but complete the projects.

‘Our government’s specialty is, we brought work culture where announcements are not made just to grab headlines and schemes are not just announced to throw dust in eyes of people. It is not our culture. We take up the things which we can complete,’ PM said.

‘The previous Congress-led UPA government had record of building 11 km national highway per day, today it’s 22 km. The previous government had in its last three years built 80000 km roads, our government has constructed 1,20,000 km roads. Last govt had in its last 3 years, laid 1100 km new rail lines, while we built 2100 km. The last govt had in its last 3 years completed 2,500 km rail line electrification, this govt has in 3 years completed 4,300 km plus electrification of rail line. The past government laid optical fiber network during 2011-2014 covering 59 panchayats, We have laid optical fiber and covered 1 lakh plus panchayats. In the last govt, urban housing project were completed in 939 cities. Today the PM Aawas Yojana has covered 4,320 urban places. In the last govt, in last 3 years, new capacity of 12,000 mw renewable energy was added. In this government in last 3 years, 22,000 mw plus renewable energy was added. In shipping ,cargo handling had negative growth during previous government while in this govt, in 3 years 11% plus growth has been achieved,’ the Prime Minister said.

Modi said govt uses technology to monitor the projects through drone, mobile phones, satellite tagging to speed up the projects and bring transparency.

400 government schemes are covered under Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT). 1.15 crore are covered under Aadhar. Widows and pensioners are free from middle men now.

‘You are sad with direct benefit transfer because middlemen and dishonest who looted this country have lost employment,’ PM said addressing to opposition Congress members.

‘4 crore poor and middle class families are given free electricity connections. 18,000 villages had not even electricity poles fixed and people were living in 18th century condition,’ PM said adding that out of 25 crore houses, 4 crore were without power which comes to around 20%.

PM said his government has in last three years worked on Rs 1.5 lakh crore projetcs which is 83% more than previous government’s last three years. After 2014 installed transmission lines are up by 31% compared to entire period post independence. Power transmission network has been created across the nation. PM also spoke about UDAY scheme, SAUBHAGYA yojana and betterment of power networks. He also spoke about distribution for 28 crore LED bulbs that saved Rs 15,000 crore power bill benefiting middle class.

The government has saved wasted of time and waster of money, he added.

Modi spoke about government’s actions in agriculture, animal husbandry areas. He said goods transportation has become faster by 60% due to various highway side initiatives.

‘Entry level income tax is lowest in India which is 5%. It is not even in developed nation. This time in budget, Rs 40,000 standard deducation has been approved, senior citizens are given relief, middle class has been given Rs 12,000 crore worth relief in budget. This government has for the first time given interest relief to middle class. METRO in 11 cities, new IITs, new AIIMS. Middle class is served by 5% cut in tax for MSME with Rs 250 crore turnover. Businesses upto Rs 1.5 crore turnover are given composition scheme benefit in GST. Jan Dhan Yojana has availed bank accounts to over 31 crore poor. 90 paise per day or Re. 1 per month premium insurance to poor. Rs 2,000 crore has reached them. 3.30 crore poor women are given gas connections for free under Ujjawala yojana. The scheme is expanded to 8 crore target.

The Prime Minister told Congress, ‘if you were connected to ground, you would not have been in this position(opposition with 44 seats)’.

PM said, ‘then Congress PM Rajiv Gandhi was speaking about 21st century repeatedly in his speeches, but even Aviation policy was not made. With a new Aviation policy we used small air strips and introduced air traffic to 16 new strips. This year over 900 aircraft purchase orders are given from India.’

Modi said Bidad-Kalburgi new railway line project which was approved by Atal Bihari Vajpayee government could see 37 km completion when then BJP chief minister took initiative and delivered whatever was needed to implement the project. When election came, 37 km line was opened. It is this government that has completed 72 km leftover work.

‘We didn’t treat it as opposition leader’s constituency and dumped the project. We believe its nation’s project,’ PM said pointing out that it was Congress leader Kharge’s constituency.

PM also gave examples of Barmer refinery and Assam’s Dolsadia bridge. He said, ‘Barmer refinery’s foundation stone was laid just before the election and names of Congress leaders were carved over it. When our government came to power and we went through the papers, we found that stone laying was just on paper and there was no land, no approval in place or no agreement with the government. Your mistakes were corrected by Rajasthan and Central BJP government and we kicked off the works. Assams Dolsadia bridge was Atal government’s decision, and we inaugurated it.

Modi said his government is building the longest tunnel, longest gas pipeline, longest sea bridge, fastest train, and these all decisions can be taken by only this government.

Modi said four former chief ministers are in prison in corruption cases and this has happened for the first time. He described this as ‘utsav of imaandari’ and added that more people were coming forward to pay taxes as they were sure that this government will utilize tax money well.
