Ahmedabad: A driver who had knocked down a pedestrian on zebra crossing in Ahmedabad walked free within hours after arrest on bail.
Early this week, a speeding Toyota Innova car knocked down a pedestrian Suresh Thakor in Prenatirth area of Ahmedabad when victim was crossing the road using zebra crossing. As per the CCTV footage, the car was in very high speed. The car driver didn’t stop after the accident to inquire about the victim or to take him to hospital.He escaped the place.
Eye-witnesses had spotted ‘Abhinandan’ written on the glass of car. Police searched ‘Abhinandan, Ahmedabad’ on google and reached Abhinandan travels office in Maninagar where owner Jitubhai admitted that his driver Ashok Bhati was on driving seat when Suresh Thakor was crossing the road.
The police arrested Ashok Bhati at midnight on Wednesday and produced him in court on Thursday. He was granted bail and released. Police had not filed overspeeding charge against accused.
CIty’s Anandnagar police was probing this case.
