20-day remand to year 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts accused terrorist Taukir

Ahmedabad:

A special court here today allowed 20 days remand (up to March 23) of terrorist Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Taukir, one of the main accused of 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts case, to the crime branch of Ahmedabad police.

Joint Commissioner of Police (crime branch) J K Bhatt said that Taukir was produced in a court here today. His remand was sought for 30 days but the court allowed it for 20 days ie till 1500 hrs on March 23. He would now be interrogated in detail.

He was nabbed by the special cell of Delhi Police on January 21. He had opened fire at Delhi police before his arrest.
He said that Taukir was also involved in Mumbai train blast case, Jaipur and Delhi blasts of 2008 along with the serial blasts in Ahmedabad of July 26 the same year and failed conspiracy of such blasts in Surat.

Bhatt said that of all the cases he was involved in, Ahmedabad serial blast case was the deadliest.

The JCP said that an aide of Yasin and Riyaz Bhatkal, Taukir, 46, an Indian Mujahidin operative was an electronics engineer and native of Rampur in UP who was living in Mumbai and went underground after the blasts.

He had also lived in Vatva and Vadodara and participated in various SIMI meetings in Juhapura in Ahmedabad in 2003-04. He had also participated in the meetings of Indian Mujahideen in the forests of Kerala and Pawagarh in Gujarat to make the plans for Ahmedabad serial blasts. He was a key conspirator and provided training about it and circuits etc used to make bombs. He had fled to Nepal via Jharkhand and Bihar and also to Pakistan after the incident. He had gone to Pakistan at least two-three times.

Bhatt said that he would be interrogated about his Pakistan visits and links with ISI.

Earlier he had also done recce of the office of the then BJP MLA Rakesh Shah here and of Vadodara MS University senate member Pradip Shah who had accompanied Narendra Modi during his tricolor hoisting at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

Bhatt said that detailed interrogation of Taukir would be done once he was brought to Ahmedabad.

Notably 57 people were killed and over 200 injured in the serial blasts at 21 places in Ahmedabad on July 26, 2008.
