Mumbai: Suzlon Energy Ltd (BOM:532667) said on Monday it has secured turnkey contracts for 500 MW of wind power capacity, won under a recent tender held by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
The Indian wind turbine manufacturer said in a bourse statement the two projects have capacities of 300 MW and 200 MW, respectively. They will involve the installation of 238 units of Suzlon’s S111 140-metre (459-ft) wind turbines with capacities of 2.1 MW each.
Suzlon will build the two plants in the Kutch region of the state of Gujarat. Following completion, it will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the wind parks, expected to generate electricity to supply around three million homes and save 10 million carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
Suzlon’s CEO JP Chalasani said that through the competitive bidding process, the Indian wind industry is poised to expand by up 8 GW-10 GW per year.
