Gujarat Assembly passes VAT amendment bill

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Assembly today passed Gujarat Mulyavardhit Vera amendment bill unopposed.

According to Finance minister Nitin Patel who moved this bill the State government will be able to collect VAT when court case pertaining to VAT challenged by the department is pending or when the verdict is in favor of the government.

‘The department is binding to accept the verdict of tribunal, high court, supreme court but in the cases in which the Sales Tax department has challenged the case in the High Court of the Supreme Court, the verdict takes time to arrive. In such cases the department will be benefited with passing of this amendment bill for the period between the time of verdict against the department in lower court and verdict in favor of the department in higher court in terms of revision and implementation or order.
