Tobacco farmers in Central Gujarat suffering because of GST trouble
April 03, 2018
Nadiad: A group of tobacco growing farmers marched in a rally from Santram temple and reached Collector office demanding solution of tangle between the farmers and the traders over GST.
According to farmers, the traders are not purchasing tobacco from farmers due to 28% GST imposed by the government. The traders need to pay 28% GST in advance. Moreover 5% GST is levied on row tobacco.
According to tobacco growing farmer Bhikhabhai Patel (Rampura village), many villages including Arera, Rampura, Davapura, Sundha, Singhali, Navchetan, Veena are affected due to non-purchase of tobacco. He said total GST should be levied on packing instead of divided GST levied on farmers and traders. If solution is not arrived by May, the situation of farmers will worsen.
