Flight operations at SVPI Airport in Ahmedabad return to normalcy after completion of runway resurfacing work

The domestic flight operations at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport today become completely normal again after an around one and a half month restrictions due to major runway resurfacing work.

Meanwhile, the Bhavnagar and Surat flights of Air Odisha, a joint venture of Gujarat State Export Corporation Limited (GSEC), Monarch and Bubaneshwar based Air Deccan, which launched its economic flight services under the union government’s regional connectivity scheme UDAN from here to various destinations in February this year was also started from here today. On the occasion Education cum civil aviation minister of Gujarat Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and BJP president and MLA from Bhavnagar west Jeetu Vaghani were also present who along with Ajay Chauhan CEO, GUJSAIL also boarded the aircraft on its maiden flight to Bhanvnagar/Surat.

The flight number 6X 101 to Bhavnagar took off at 0705 am and reached Bhavnagar at 0745 am.

From Bhavnagar it departed for Surat as flight number 6X 107 at 0805 am to reach in the diamond city at 0835 am. It returned to Bhavanagar from Surat as flight number 6X108 at 0855 am to arrive at 0925 am. From Bhavnagar it flew for Ahmedabad as flight number 6X 102 at 0945 to reach here at 1025.

Fares starting would be as low as Rs 1,420 for the Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar flight and Rs 1,699 for a one-way trip to Surat from Bhavnagar.

Flight number 6X 103 for Mundra from here which was launched on February 17 and was rescheduled during runway re-surfacing at 0600 am in the morning will also fly from here today at its originally scheduled time of 1210 in the noon.

The flights from here to Diu and Jamnagar of the low cost operator, which were stopped shortly after start owing to technical issues, is also going re-start from today. The sole operating flight between Ahmedabad and Mundra which was rescheduled during resurfacing of the runway resurfacing work at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport here from March 1 till yesterday, will also start running as per its original schedule from tomorrow.

A spokesperson of the Airliner today said that flight number 6X 103 for Mundra from here which was launched on February 17 and was rescheduled during runway re-surfacing at 0600 am in the morning will also fly from tomorrow at its originally scheduled time of 1210 in the noon. The flights for Jamnagar and Dieu would also depart from here at 1655 and 1335 respectively.The airliner would operate the flights on all days of the week except for Sundays.

Meanwhile, the domestic flight operations at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport has also become completely normal again from today after after completion of one and a half month long runway resurfacing work.

The runway after completion of its resurfacing work was handed over to the AAI at 1900 hrs yesterday evening and the flight operations at the largest and sole international airport in Guajrat normalized from today, Airport Director Manoj Gangal said today.

Notably the resurfacing of runway started on February 16 to 28 in the first phase and from March 1 to April 15 in the second phase. As in the first phase it was done in that part of the 3.505 km long runway which was not used for regular landing or take-off work, no flights were hampered.

But from March 1 to April 15 the operational area of the runway was re-surfaced and owing to the work from 10 am to 7 pm there was no flight operation during the period. In all around 30 domestic flights of this period were rescheduled owing to it.As all the international flights operate during the night or early morning hours they operate as usual. In all around 200 flights are operated from the airport on daily basis of which around 25% are international. Notably, the resurfacing of the runway was necessitated as it had developed potholes and patches during the heavy monsoon rains last year.
