Surat: Three sweepers who had entered underground gutter for cleaning work were dead in Parle Point area of Surat.

The incident occured near Malhar appartment at 4.00 pm.

Raju Vijay Dangi(40), Sunil Raju Dangi(18) and Kalubhai(40) died in this incident.

First to enter the gutter was Sunil Dangi. As he didn’t return from gutter, his father Raju Dangi entered the gutter. As both went silent inside the gutter, sub contractor Kalubhai entered the gutter. As all three didn’t resurface outside, the locals called fire brigade staff

According to drainage department city engineer Mr. Bharat Dalal, the contractor had not sought SMC’s nod for this work and breached SMC protocol.

City municipal commissioner said he had ordered police case against the contractor.

It should be mention here that gases like carbon monoxide and sulfied in gutter can cause death of anyone entering inside the gutter.
