Surat Police to expand its CCTV network, increase patrolling in migrants populated area

Surat: Surat Police Commissioner Satish Sharma today said the city police has identified the gaps in citywide CCTV network and completed a survey in this regard.

Sharma was addressing the media to share the details of detection in rape and double murder case. This was yet another case which could be solved with the help of CCTV footage.

Sharma said, ‘day before yesterday, the gaps in CCTV network are reviewed. A meeting was held day before yesterday by Additional Commissioner of Police with Pandesara Industry Association, as a result of which the association has started installation of 60 new CCTV cameras. There’s a need of more CCTV cameras in the city for which talks are going on with Traffic Education Trust. Gaps are identified in a survey and the city police has decided to strictly implement its notification for mandatory CCTV installation in shops, malls, hospitals, schools, colleges, hotels and other establishments.’

Sharma stressed on need to have extra police vigil in the areas where people from outside Gujarat are settled.

‘Pandesara, Sachi, Sachin GIDC, Dindoli, Limbayat are such area where extra patrolling will be done. 8 mobile vans are purchased in cooperation with the industry association for police patrolling,’ he added.

Sharma said CCTV is very important thing. Crime in the areas where CCTV cameras are installed, can be detected easily. Criminals too are aware that certain places have CCTV vigil, and they too refrain from committing crime in such areas.

Sharma said the detection of 11-year old girl’s rape and murder case was a brilliant one. He said though this was a blind case, it could be solved in 13 days.

He said the lesson learnt during this detection was that the city police should take help of State police when needed. It was not possible for Surat police to solve this particular case so speedily without the help of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch. The Surat Police had done lot of ground work and had done great efforts to know the identity of the girl whose dead body was found. City police had gone through the records of 8,000 missing children, city police had also printed and circulated poster of victim girl in attempt to know her identity. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch focused on finding the accused.

Sharma said the names of victim girl and her mother will not be revealed. Section of media has published wrong names. The actual names of victim women are not known to police as of now.

Sharma said the accused who has been nabbed from Rajasthan had bought the woman and her child and brought them to Surat. The mother was pressing that accused should keep her with him, but the accused was married and therefore he killed her. The daughter had witnessed this. She was refusing to succumb to him and therefore she too was killed. Sharma said additional complaint was filed by police for mother’s death.
