Fire in ONGC Petro Additions Ltd (OPaL) petrochemical complex in Dahej SEZ in Gujarat

A fire today broke out in the ware-house of the mega petrochemical complex of ONGC Petro Additions Limited (OPaL), the largest petrochemical unit in India dedicated to the nation by PM Narendra Modi over a year ago, situated in Dahej SEZ of Bharuch district of Gujarat this afternoon.
An official of the mega Petrochemical complex, the largest single petrochemical unit in India situated in Dahej SEZ, today said that the fire broke out in the product ware-house in which poly propylene is kept. Attempts to quench the fire was on. The fire which was noticed at 1630 hrs could not be doused even after over four hours of operation.
So far no casualty has been reported. The reason behind the incident was not yet known. The area of fire has been cordoned and attempts to douse the fire was on. Preventive measures have been taken to stop the spread of the fire.
Apart from its fire department, teams of Industrial safety were also involved in fire dousing operation.
Notably, OPaL has set up a grass root mega Petrochemical project at Dahej, Gujarat in PCPIR/SEZ. The complex’s main Dual Feed Cracker Unit has the capacity to produce 1100 KTPA Ethylene, 400 KTPA Propylene and the Associated Units consists of Pyrolysis Gasoline Hydrogenation Unit, Butadiene Extraction Unit and Benzene Extraction Unit.
It was dedicated to the nation by PM Narendra Modi in March last year.
