Over 10 lakh kg of ground-nut (29988 sacks) reduced to ashes in major fire in GSWC go-down at Rajkot

Over 10 lakh kg of ground-nut worth around Rs 4 crore has been gutted in a major fire that broke-out in a go-down of Gujarat State Warehousing Corporation in Shapar-Veraval of Kotda Sanghani taluka in Rajkot district.
Mamlatdar S D Chandwani today said that the fire broke out at around 2030 hrs last night owing to unknown reasons. ‘A total of 29988 sacks of ground-nut with an average of 35 kg of it in each of these, were stored in the go-down. All of this have been burnt to ashes,’ he said adding that however another 17000 sacks of ground-nut procured at support price kept in another go-down near this one was intact.
‘We don’t know the reason as yet and it is a matter of investigation,’ he said.
Chandwani said that the fire has now been almost completely controlled with fire-fighters from RMC and various other places in operation for over 15 hours.
There was no casualty in the incident.
Notably, earlier on January 30 around 2 lakh sacks of ground-nut worth around Rs 28 crores procured at MSP gutted in a major fire in a go-down in Gondal of Rajkot.
Fire would be probed by high level team of CID-crim:Faldu
Gandhinagar: Agriculture Minister R C Faldu today said that the incident of fire in a go-down of Gujarat State Warehousing Corporation in Shapar-Veraval of Kotda Sanghani taluka in Rajkot district would be probed by a high level team of CID-crime.
Faldu said that CM Vijay Rupani has taken it seriously and said that incident would be probed by a high level team of CID-crime.
Faldu said that if the incident was found to be act of arson, the culprits would be dealt with strictly.

Earlier, an SIT of CID- crime had probed another major fire of January 30 in a go-down in Gondal of Rajkot in which around 2 lakh sacks of ground-nut worth around Rs 28 crores procured at MSP by government agencies were gutted. The incident turned out to be a result of negligence. It was caused by spark of wielding machine.
