Ahmedabad: Sabarmati Riverfront will get two new gardens for which private players will be invited to bid. One of them may come up close to Shankar Bhuvan na Chhapra area near Khanpur area of East with miniature heritage park showcasing city’s historic and heritage monuments in miniature format. Another garden has been planned in Dafnala area for recreational purpose. This decision was taken in the meeting of Sabarmati Riverfront Board.

In another decisions, a light house model will be installed near Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation(SRFDCL) office. The light house model has been received by AMC as a gift. It is 36 ft tall with 16 ft diameter.

The board meeting also discussed the road map for auction of plots. Earlier the AMC had initiated the process for auction of two plots at Riverfront. The AMC may now proceed for auction of seven to ten plots in a format that may have scope for local bidders too. Money earned from auction will be used to carry out the phase-2 development works.

The meeting discussed Rs 850 crore phase-2 development plan. In phase-2 stretch between Indira bridge and Subhash bridge, only roads and walls will be built using RCC, while other spaces will be kept/developed as green space. The second phase will have total 9.7 km length of which 5.4 km will be in East and 4.3 km in West. The second phase will come up between Dafnala and Indira bridge in East and Torrent Power and Indira bridge on West.

A barrage will be created with small bridge for small vehicles between Subhash bridge and Indira bridge. This will be the second barrage after Vasna barrage in the city of Ahmedabad. Proposed barrage will store water. It will also serve purpose of a small bridge.

The AMC had invited bids for extension of river drive West road from Varsha flat to Ambedkar bridge and Subhash bridge to Torrent Power. After invited bids for thrice, there was no response. In fourth attempt, there was a single bid.

An open plot on Riverfront West close to Torrent Power will be used to develop a party plot which can be useful for those living in Sabarmati, Vadaj, Chandkheda etc areas.
