Taking suo moto cognizance of Shapar-Veraval incident NHRC seeks report from Gujarat govt.

Taking suo moto cognizance of the incident of death of a Dalit youth in Shapar-Veraval of Rajkot district, who was beaten to death under suspicion of him being a thief, the National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the chief secretary of Gujarat about it.

Notably, the youth was brutally beaten by owners of Radadiya Industries factory on May 19. He was admitted to the civil hospital Rajkot where he succumbed on May 20.

Taking a prompt action in the case, police arrested five accused in the case. They have been booked under section 302 of the IPC and also under various sections of the SC/ST (prevention of atrocities) Act.

The state government has also announced Rs 8.25 lakh assistance for the family of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the NHRC has sought the report of the incident from the CS, Gujarat. Taking suo moto cognizance of the incident on the basis of media reports the commission has said that if the media reports were true then it was a case of violation of human rights.

MoS Home Pradipsinh Jadeja on the other hand has said that strict action as per law would be taken against all the culprits in the case.
