Gujarat ATS arrests 1993 Mumbai serial blast accused Ahmed Sheikh alias Lambu

Ahmddabad: The Anti Terrorist Squad of Gujarat Police after nabbing a wanted accused of 1993 Mumbai blasts and aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim today handed him over to the Mumbai CBI team.

Ahmed Kamal Shaikh alias Ahmed Kamal Shah alias Ahmed Lambu (52), a native of Mumbai was nabbed from a coastal area in Vapi of Valsad district late last night on the basis of a tip off.

Shaikh, over whom a reward of Rs 5 lakh was announced by CBI and on whose name a red corner notice of the Interpol was also issued, was one of the main conspirators of the deadly blasts which had claimed over 200 innocent lives and injured many.

Before March 1993 blasts of Mumbai Shaikh had visited Dawaood in Dubai in January that year and participated in a meeting in which conspiracy of the blasts was hatched. After that he had also gone to Pakistan for a week from Dubai to participate in a terror training. He had assisted in hiding the explosives and other such items used for the blasts in Mumbai. After the blasts he fled to Dubai again and lived there in hiding.

Patel said that Shaikh, who was a proclaimed absconder has been handed over to the Mumbai CBI team which was prosecuting agency in the sensational case for further action.
