Porbandar: Gujarat government had recently taken a decision to accept the demand made by fishermen and announced Rs 12 relief per litre in Vallue Added Tax(VAT) levied on fuel. In addition to this, Indial Oil Corporation will give Rs 2.28 relief per litre. This makes effective discount per litre stock of disel at Rs 14.28.

The government has decided to implement its decision with effect from 1st April 2017. In order to get VAT refund for the period, boat owners have started submitting their bills for the period of 1st Apritl last year and 18th March this year.

Each boat is likely to get around Rs 3 to 4 lakh, based on usage. Porbandar has 2400 fishing boats. Rs 14.28 per litre comes to Rs 2,88,000 per 24,000 litre usage of fuel. One using 21,000 litre diesel will get Rs 2,52,000 as per the bill.
