June 09, 2018
Vadodara: Chief Minister Rupani is going to perform ground breaking for waste to power and waste water to usable/potable water plant today in Vadodara. VMC(Vadodara Municipal Corporation) owned Atladara STP discharges waste water after treatment. VMC also collects solid waste from across the city. Using this both, 1,000 KW power generation and clean water worth over Rs one crore can be achieved. Bill Gates Foundation will do the task in partnership with Municipal Corporation under public private partnership(PPP) model. Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation is already doing this in South Africa. Bill Gates Foundation will spend Rs 35 crore and process the liquid sludge and solid waste. 90% water gained from liquid sludge will be supplied to industrial units while rest 10% will be converted to potable water. 1,000 kw power generated from plant will be used for operation of STP machinery. Rest of power generated will be supplied to VMC, which is expected to be worth Rs 11 lakh per year. The project is expected to complete next year. Ankur Scientific Energy Technology Pvt Ltd will commission the plant and maintain it for ten year. Selling of water gained from the process will earn VMC Rs 1 crore. VMC has no investment to make in this project. Its role is to provide liquid sludge and solid waste.
