Becharaji Dalit beating case: two accused surrender, arrested

Ahmedabad:

Two of the four accused in the case of beating of a Dalit youth in Bitthalapur village near Becharaji of Ahmedabad district today surrendered before the police.

A police official said that one Jaydip alias Jaylo Zala who had allegedly made the video of the incident of beating up of the youth with caste-based abusing by youths of Darbar community and Chehar Thakore, both residents of village Endala, surrendered today and were arrested by the DySP of SC-ST cell. They were being interrogated.

Two other accused including the main culprit Bharat are still at large.

The video of the incident that took place on June 14 had gone viral on social media. Taking a strong exception to the incident MoS Home Pradipsinh Jadeja had ordered the police department to take strict action against the culprits. He had said that such divisive attempts that divide the society on caste-lines won’t be tolerated. 14 teams of police have been made to nab the culprits.

A case under various sections of SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, IPC (for Kidnapping the victim) and IT Act was lodged.

Looking at a spurt in such incidents in recent times MoS Jadeja has instructed the police to keep a strict vigil on social media in such cases.
