Monsoon finally makes entry in Gujarat, rain lashes South Gujarat, heavy rain warning for next 48 hours

South West Monsoon has finally made an entry in Gujarat today, the IMD center Director Jayant Sarkar said.

Meanwhile the met bulletin issued in the evening said, ‘MONSOON HAS ADVANCED OVER SOUTH GUJARAT REGION ON TODAY 23 RD JUNE 2018. THE NORTHERN LIMIT OF SOUTH WEST MONSOON PASSES THROUGH LATITUDE 20°N/ LONG. 60°E, LAT. 20°N/ LONGITUDE 70°E, VALSAD (IN GUJARAT) AND OTHER PLACES IN OTHER STATES LIKE
AHMEDNAGAR, BULDHANA, AMRAVATI, GONDIA, TITLAGARH, CUTTACK, MIDNAPORE.’

It added, ‘ CONDITIONS ARE BECOMING FAVOURABLE FOR FURTHER ADVANCE OF SOUTHWEST MONSOON OVER SOME MORE PARTS OF SOUTH GUJARAT REGION DURING NEXT 2 DAYS.’

Sarkar said that under the influence of two systems one offshore trough at mean sea level streching from South Gujarat coast to Kerala coast persists and another cyclonic circulation over North Konkan and adjoining South Gujarat between 2.1 km and 3.6 km above mean sea level, the monsoon has made an entry in Gujarat today.

He said that in the next 48 hours heavy rains will take place. In the first 24 hours heavy rains were very likely at isolated places in the districts of south Gujarat region namely Valsad, Navsari, Dangs, and adjoining union territory of Daman,Dadra Nagar Haveli. In the next 24 hours after that heavy rains were very likely at isolated places in the districts of south Gujarat region namely Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, Dangs and UT of Daman,Dadra Nagar Haveli

Sarkar said that several places in Valsad, Navsari and Dangs districts have seen heavy rain fall and some places have recorded rain in excess of 100 mm. Surat and parts of Saurashtra including Amreli, Bhavnagar etc also saw some rain today.

He said that the heavy rainfall warning for parts of South Gujarat region druing next 48 hours has been issued today.

The met director said that north Gujarat would witness light to moderate rain only.

Notably, the met had earlier predicted the arrival of monsoon from next week ie sometime between June 25 to 27. Prior to that the arrival of monsoon was predicted to take place even before the normal time of June 15.

With the coming of monsoon and heavy rainfall, many places in South Gujarat have seen water-logging.

Last year the monsoon had made an early entry on June 12.
