Monsoon advances further in Gujarat, IMD intensifies warning, NDRF teams also alerted

Gandhinagar: Even as South West Monsoon has further advanced in Gujarat after its around a week-long delayed entry in this western state yesterday, several places including Surat, Amreli and Ahmedabad witnessed rain today and the met has intensified its warning from heavy to very-heavy for the day and continued the heavy rainfall warning for another 48 hours.

The around 10 NDRF teams stationed at various places in the state have also been alerted.

The city of Ahmedabad also witnessed a spell of rain accompanied by strong winds this morning during which water logging in several low lying areas and felling of trees and a pole also took place. However clouds scattered later and the city witnessed a bright sunny day. Surat also saw rains on the second consecutive day today with some places seeing around 2 inches of rain till this evening. Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, Veraval, Amreli, Rajkot also saw cloudy weather and some amount of rain.
In the last 24 hours a total of 97 talukas in 23 districts had received rain of which maximum around 6 inches was in Umbergam of Valsad district. Vadodara also has seen over and inch or rain. Dahod, Tapi, Surat, Dangs all saw good amount of rainfall.

Meanwhile the met bulletin today said that Heavy to very heavy rainfall was very likely at isolated places over South Gujarat districts namely Valsad, Navsari, Dangs, Tapi, Surat, and adjoining union territory of Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Saurashtra districts namely Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir Somnath and in UT of Diu today.
For tomorrow the forecast is Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over South Gujarat districts namely Surat, Valsad, Navsari and in Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli; over Saurashtra districts namely Bhavnagar and Amreli and that for day after tomorrow is Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over South Gujarat districts namely Surat, Valsad, Navsari and in Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli.

About the advancement of monsoon and synoptic situation the bulletin said, ‘ SOUTHWEST MONSOON HAS FURTHER ADVANCED OVER SOME MORE PARTS OF NORTH ARABIAN SEA, SAURASHTRA & GUJARAT REGION. THE NORTHERN LIMIT OF MONSOON PASSES THROUGH VERAVAL, AMRELI, AHMEDABAD, KHANDWA,AMRAVATI ETC. CONDITIONS ARE BECOMING FAVOURABLE FOR FURTHER ADVANCEMENT OF SOUTHWEST MONSOON INTO SOME MORE PARTS OF NORTH ARABIAN SEA,GUJARAT STATE DURING NEXT 48 HOURS.’

‘HEAVY TO VERY HEAVY RAINFALL OCCURRED AT ISOLATED PLACES IN THE DISTRICTS OF GUJARAT REGION. RAINFALL OCCURRED AT MANY PLACES IN THE DISTRICTS OF SOUTH GUJARAT REGION; AT A FEW PLACES IN THE DISTRICTS OF NORTH GUJARAT REGION, SAURASHTRA. WEATHER WAS DRY OVER KUTCH. AS PER THE SYNOPTIC SITUATION:- MORNING’S OFFSHORE TROUGH AT MEAN SEA LEVEL EXTENDING FROM SOUTH GUJARAT COAST TO KERALA COAST PERSISTS. MORNING’S CYCLONIC CIRCULATION OVER NORTH KONKAN AND ADJOINING SOUTH GUJARAT BETWEEN 2.1 KM AND 3.6 KM ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL PERSISTS,’ It further said.

Meanwhile under the impact of monsoon and rain the temperatures across the state has gone down sharply and the maximum temperatures have dipped below 40 at all the places. In Ahmedabad the maximum at 33.4°C was over 4 degree below normal while the minimum at 23.1°C was also over 4 notches below normal. Low lying areas in city like Hatkeshwar, Marninagar, Jasodanagar, Amabwadi ect saw water logging this morning due to an average around half inch of rainfall in the city today. The pole with CCTV cameras for traffic in Dharnidhar area collapsed which temporarily affected traffic.

Two teenagers had died in Pipaliya village under Wankaner taluka of Morbi district last evening in rain related incident. Vishwanath Jadeja (17) and Pushpnath Jadeja (18) died on the spot when lightening struck them while they were standing beneath a tree during rain. A buffalo in the village also died in similar manner.
