Heavy rain in Valsad and Umargam; trains on Surat – Mumbai route moving slower, road traffic impacted

Surat: As per the forecast by Indian Meteorological Department(IMD), the Southern Gujarat region today received heavy rain. The southernmost town Umargam received 8 inch shower in 24 hours while Valsad received 5 inch rain in two hours. The second largest city of Gujarat, Surat received two inch rain in two hours in the morning while Kamrej received 3.5 inch rain in two hours. Schools were asked to remain closed in Umargam due to water logged roads. Water logging situation in Valsad may even worsen due to high tide in sea.

Due to overflowing in local water body in Umargam, the surrounding areas were waterlogged. Traffic on national highway connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai was moving slower. Similarly, trains on this route were also running late due to water logging over railway tracks in Umargam and Bhilad. Traffic was impacted due to closure of railway crossing at Udwada following water logging.


Update:
In water logging affected stretch of Bhilad – Sanjan, trains are operated at 10 km/hour speed for safety reasons. Portion of Surat – Mumbai national highway too is water logged.

Update:Bharuch district and town has received heavy rain. The city of Vaodara too has received heavy rain. Even city Mayor’s office was water soaked.

Update: Jhagadia – Rajpardi road has been closed for traffic due to water logging.  Gujarat State Road Transportation Corporation (GSRTC) bus was stuck at water logged road. The bus had 21 passengers. They all shifted atop the bus. They were rescued later through rope to safe place.

Update: Southern Gujarat industrial town Vapi witnessed over 6 inch rain today.

Update: Narmada dam witnessed increase in water level upto 17 cm in 7 hours.

Update: Underpass near railway station in Vadodara was water logged. It was impossible to pass through the underpass during the day.

Update: Vadodara city Mayor’s car was stuck in cave-in following rains. The picture went viral on social media.
