More NDRF teams to arrive, IAF communicated for eventual air lifting, PM’s visit unchanged as of now: Rupani

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today said the state government will get five more teams of NDRF in addition to present 15 teams that are stand to for any rescue work necessary in wake of heavy rain, flood and water logging situation in parts of State.

Rupani said three villages of Gir Gadhda district namely Kanakiya, Kaneri and Sangwal were out of reach following very heavy rainfall. However communication has resumed and even transportation will resume today itself.

Rupani said he would have planned visit to flood-affected areas if rainfall had continued even in the afternoon. However post noon, rainfall has decreased and situation has started improving in affected areas.

He said 85 persons were shifted to safe paces in Olpad area of Surat while 262 persons were shifted in Navsari district. Local administration was taking care of them, he added.

The Chief Minister further said that main control room linked to district level control rooms is functional. The State disaster management authority was procuring new boats, he said in reference to forecast of very heavy rainfall possibility in next five days.

Rupani said the State has written letter to Indian Air Force for any eventuality in which air lifting become necessary. He added that as of now, air lifting has not been needed.

In reply to question regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Gujarat, Rupani said: yes it is true that Valsad and Junagadh, both places where Prime Minister’s visit is scheduled are rain affected, but as of now the visit programme is unchanged. We are observing the situation.
